We would like this site to be a good resource for anyone interested in cross country skiing or snowshoeing in the highlands.
This season we started skiing in early December and we have been in the highlands consistently since then.
There are no groomed trails and there are no trail markers either.
We are hoping that this is the future. There is endless skiing and snowshoeing potential in the Cape Breton Highlands and it will only take a minimal amount of infrastructure to turn the area into a safe environment for anyone.
Right now it is unfortunately easy to get lost in the highlands if you don't know the area. We advise people to not go up there without someone who knows the highlands, especially because sudden weather changes can cause dangerous conditions.
