This is our local page for Montreal and area where we can help you directly. Our National Facebook page is "Save Wicca".
Our group consists of a legal team and animal advocates who all came together over the very public case of Wicca, a beloved 5 yr old American Stadfforshire Terrier AKA a Pit Bull who was a victim of breed discrimination by the city of Montreal. Despite a lengthy court battle, tremendous public outrage and media attention, Wicca was killed by the city of Montreal on July 26th, 2012 over a minor incident. A day WE WILL NEVER FORGET! This foundation has been created in her honour so that no other innocent victims of breed discrimination or unconstitutional canine laws ever undergo such an injustice.
Behind the scenes include a legal team headed by the attorney who felt moved to take on Wicca’s case. This legal team saw first hand how Wicca was treated like a dangerous criminal and they were completely stunned by the treatment Wicca received. This beloved dog was never given due process. Her evaluation by a court approved behaviorist which recommended a muzzle for Wicca as a precaution was never allowed. Breed discrimination was flagrant. Police reports stating she never bit the ambulance technician were ignored as well. The city never budged despite being asked to reconsider more than once by the Court, the City Pound who got to know her and stated she was not a dangerous dog publicly and on a phone call made to the city employee who made his decision based on a city report (he flat out said “I don’t give a damn) and the world famous Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan who offered several options. A well-known sanctuary in Texas was also ignored despite offering to take Wicca on their dime. A petition with close to 70 000 signatures was ignored. Media requests for an interview were also ignored. The city wanted her dead and they got their wish in a completely unconstitutional manner. The results led to massive public outrage and the creation of this much needed foundation for canine justice in Wicca’s honour.
Also behind the scenes are Chris, Wicca’s owner who has become quite the tenacious advocate and the Wicca Foundation CEO to ensure this never happens to another dog. His team consists of a veteran dog rescuer who worked several years in municipal management before becoming a full-time certified non-profit dog rescue with over 18 years of experience up to date, a canine educator and experienced Pit bull owner and advocate as well as another well-educated animal advocate who also happens to be an experienced programmer/network manager.
