The Royal Canadian Navy Band of HMCS CHIPPAWA is a professional team of talented musicians dedicated to fulfilling their role in the Canadian Forces and the greater community.
The role of The Royal Canadian Navy Band of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship CHIPPAWA is to help the citizens of our country to become more aware of the Royal Canadian Navy and its Naval Reserve as well as providing musical support for the Canadian Forces, all levels of government, and a variety of public functions.
Military and public parades, ceremonial commemorative and social events, dances, school and public concerts are some of the many engagements that display the versatility of the CHIPPAWA Band.
The band demonstrates support for local communities with its active role in fund-raising for non-profit organizations such as the Rainbow Resource Centre, the Children’s Wish Foundation, United Way, the Firefighter’s Burn Fund, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Variety Children’s Charity, and Winnipeg Harvest. The CHIPPAWA Band continues to aid Canadian Forces Recruiting offices in their efforts to reach young Canadians, through concerts and presentations at schools.
The members of the CHIPPAWA Band accomplish these varied
functions by utilizing a number of specialized ensembles, including a concert band, parade band, stage band, Dixieland combo, jazz trio, brass quintet, and our newest rock group the Prairie Sailors. CHIPPAWA’s many ensembles rehearse and perform throughout the training year. During the summer, employment is available to members both as performers and as students. Members have the opportunity to tour with the National Band of the Naval Reserve or to train at Canadian Forces School of Music at Base Borden, Ontario.
