A fundraiser founded by John Smith to support students who have completed the Adult Learning Program at NSCC and are furthering their education at the College.
The Determination Ride: Cycling for NSCC students supports NSCC students who have completed the Adult Learning Program and are now pursuing further education at NSCC.
Adult Learning Program students often face significant barriers, including financial challenges. With the right support at the right time, they can overcome these obstacles and achieve their goals.
To help ALP students, NSCC Student Services manager John Smith founded The Determination Ride: Cycling for NSCC Students, a fundraiser that will see him circumnavigate the province by bicycle.
The funds raised will go towards the Determination Award, a $1,000 annual bursary available to students in this cohort province-wide.
Every little bit can make a big difference in the life of a student. All donations to The Determination Ride directly support access to education and student success.
The Determination Award is dedicated to the memory of the late Ruth Pulsifer. I knew Ruth first as a teacher while I was at Cobequid Educational Centre High School in Truro and then later, as good fortune would have it, she would become my mother-in-law. I admired and loved this woman for so many reasons and what stands out for me is how she valued the potential in every person and recognized the power of education to improve lives. I am honoured to have known Ruth and thankful for her inspiration to create this Fund.
