Clayton Holmes Healey B.A. Hons.(cross-disciplinary) (CN II retired) Director & Head Curator.
BE IT KNOWN that we advocate the Government of Canada (Canadian Heritage), implement a moratorium on the scrapping of any more Great Lakes ships currently in Canadian registry until one is preserved. There are no examples of Great Lakes steam powered freighters remaining (excluding passenger carrying Muskoka Steamboats & Toronto Harbour Ferries' "TRILLIUM") with the demise of S.S. "MONTREALAIS." Soon, there may not be a "traditional laker" with the wheelhouse forward, left to observe for posterity.
Once an appropriate hull is secured, it will be put on display in a secure location. Fine dining will be offered in the preserved crew and officer's dining rooms surrounding the galley. Accommodations for bed & breakfast/extended stays will be provided in both the forward and after ends of the ship. The pilot house & engine room will be preserved and on display as part of the museum.
Usage of cargo holds TBD.
Nov. 23/16 UPDATE, A thorough, comprehensive past 2 days was spent with our legal & advisory teams. We are moving closer towards the fulfillment of our mandate.
