ABOUT THE STUDIO:

Studio Vivace offers quality private music instruction in piano, winds, voice and theory for all ages in a positive, nurturing environment. With a focus on the joy of playing and singing, lessons are available for beginning, intermediate and advanced piano and theory, as well as beginning and intermediate winds and voice. Instructional programming is designed to meet the goals and interests of each individual student.

At Studio Vivace, students are encouraged to take a well-rounded approach to music, exploring a variety of musical styles and genres within a secure framework of correct instrumental and vocal technique. The studio offers training for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations and music festival performances, as well as coaching for auditions and school performance groups. Students have the opportunity to perform in two studio recitals per year.

ABOUT THE TEACHER:

Nancy Elmhirst
B.Mus., B.Ed.

As a keyboard musician, vocalist and instrumental conductor, Nancy Elmhirst brings a broad musical background to her studio environment. A passionate music educator for over 30 years in both the public school and private studio settings, she brings a wide range of musical experience to her teaching. Nancy has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Western Ontario, and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University. Throughout her career, she has developed award winning concert bands at both the secondary and elementary school levels, and has been active in community vocal and instrumental performing groups. In 2010, Nancy was selected by the Ontario Ministry of Education to participate in the Best Practices Video Project, an instructional video designed to serve as a model for school music educators. Nancy is currently the director of the Westben Wind Ensemble and Instrumental Foundations programs, a community-based instrumental music program which is part of the Westben Arts Festival Theatre in Campbellford, Ontario.

Nancy’s dedication, enthusiasm and passion is evident in all her teaching both at Studio Vivace and in the larger community. She is an inspiring and tireless advocate for music education and believes strongly in the power of music to transform our lives.
