Tourist Railway
Southern Prairie Railway(SPR) is Saskatchewan's first full sized tourist railway. Formed in 2010 as the operating division of Ogema Heritage Railway Association, SPR's goal is to provide an authentic prairie pioneer experience.
Located in beautiful Ogema, Saskatchewan, SPR travels east and west to the towns of Pangman and Horizon respectively.
Our guests will enjoy this excursion on our 1922 Pulllman passenger car, while being pull by a General Electric 44-ton switcher locomotive. Guests will be treated to the golden wheat fields of the prairies as well as the abundance of wildlife.
Southern Prairie Railway is located in beautiful Southern Saskatchewan and showcases the beauty and modesty of the prairies. Operating since 2012, visitors are treated to a rail excursion similar to what pioneers of the 1920's would have experienced when arriving in this new and mysterious land.
Visitors also have the opportunity to stroll down the Town of Ogema's historic Main Street and visit the British America Gas Station It is one of the only remaining corner stations in Western Canada. Visitors can also visit the Fire Hal and Fire Hall - which were built after a great fire in 1915 destroyed much of Main Street.
One of the most notable features of the community is the Deep South Pioneer Museum. This pioneer "village" includes 30 historic buildings from Ogema and surrounding communities as well as thousands of operating pieces of antique machinery and artifacts.
Take a trip into the past with a visit to Ogema and the Southern Prairie Railway.
