The aim of the Society is to relieve the suffering of those in need, regardless of race or religion. Material or moral help is given through person-to-person contact to individuals or families.
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a worldwide lay organization whose mission is to serve Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice and joy.
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society Saint Katharineís Conference has been operating in Red Deer since November 2009. We have grown from 6 founding members to 25 active members. We are all trained volunteers. Our volunteers complete various training sessions as well as criminal record checks. Together with other community organizations we assist the poor in our community. They are referred to us by many agencies such as the Clothing Bank, Food Bank, Womenís Shelter, Womenís Outreach, Safe Harbor Society and Social Services. Our friends receive our phone number from the various organizations. They contact our phone support line and then are referred to one of our volunteers. What is unique about our society is that we always complete a home visit. We become advocates for our friends and we learn what supports they require. Assistance is usually food hampers, advocacy to landlords, and assistance with applications for subsidies, and referrals to other organizations.
