SCUGOG SHORES MUSEUM VILLAGE, 16210 Island Road:
The Scugog Shores Museum is located on beautiful Scugog Island, overlooking the town of Port Perry. The mission of the Museum is to preserve, research, interpret and exhibit artifacts that illustrate the cultural and natural history of the area. The Museum grounds are home to 12 restored buildings in the historic village, heritage flower and vegetable gardens and the Ojibway Heritage Interpretive Lands. Special Events, School Programs and Guided Tours make the Museum an exciting place to visit.
You will feel like you have stepped back in time when you walk through the gate and enter the Museum's historic village. The village depicts daily life in Scugog from the mid to late 1800's. Take time to stroll through the Log Cabin and the Lee House, homes of Scugog's earliest settlers. Other buildings in the village include a Blacksmith Shop, Woodwright Shop, Print Shop, Harness Shop, Beef Ring, School House, Church, Drive Shed and two Barns. Heritage flower gardens planted throughout the village blossom spring through fall. A beautiful herb and dye garden and vegetable garden are planted with historical varieties of plants and vegetables. The Museum grounds also include the Ojibway Heritage Interpretive Lands.
From Victoria Day to Labour Day the Museum Village will be open seven days a week from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm for guided tours. Admission: Adults $4, Students and Seniors $3, Children 5-12 $2; and children under 5 are free. Labour Day to Victoria Day the Village is closed except for school groups and special events.
SCUGOG SHORES HERITAGE CENTRE AND ARCHIVES, 1655 Reach Street:
Scugog's historical treasures and archives have moved to the new Scugog Shores Heritage Centre and Archives. Located above the second ice pad at the Scugog Arena, the 4,000 square-foot development serves as a home for the Township's archives and offers an exhibit space that's completely accessible to the public. It will also be home to permanent galleries showcasing local First Nations history and local history, as well as a rotating gallery which will include art shows and traveling exhibits from larger institutions such as the Royal Ontario Museum. The Heritage Centre is open year-round.Admission: Adults $4, Students and Seniors $3, Children 5-12 $2; and children under 5 are free.
