We make personalized labels out of a special cotton that can than be ironed onto fabric, wool, wood, or any porous material.
I've spent a long time trying to find labels to personalize the quilts and other projects I make for others.
I was told to always put my name and the date on anything I made so that generations down the road, the quilt I made would be recognized as something that should be kept because it was made by somoene's great, great grandma!
I was never successful in finding any labels and always made some with diaper material and a permanent marker....not the nicest way to finish my projects, but my name was on it! You can add the date to the labels with a permanent marker if you are not going to use them all right away.
Recently I took up the challenge to find labels, and again I came up empty handed.
I did a bit of research and Sandra's Labels of Love was formed.
The labels are made of a cotton material and can be ironed onto anything porous....cardboard, wool, fabric, wood etc. They also can be sewn on if you would prefer that.
This wonderful stuff can be washed, dried, ironed, and even microwaved!
VERY IMPORTANT
TURN THE STEAM ON YOUR IRON OFF
&
USE THE MEDIUM HEAT SETTING...NOT HOT!!
The trick to a lasting label is to get it ironed so that the edges are all sealed.
I suggest running your iron over the area that you want the label to be to warm the surface up just a little to help in the process of the label sticking well.
Then the label gets put on the warm surface, face up, and place the iron on it and apply firm pressure for 5-10 seconds. Remove the iron and gently try lifting up the edges of the label. If they are not sealed, apply your iron again with firm pressure for another 5-10 seconds and check again.
Be careful not to hold your iron on one spot for too long as it may burn your label and material.
