A family owned and operated dairy farm.
Hans Gorter and Nelleke Vander Vliet immigrated from Holland to Manitoba Canada in 1988 with their baby girl Ellen. That year Optimist Holsteins was established . As their family grew so did the farm. Soon the tie barn was too small to hold the cows and a free stall was build in 1992. Today Optimist Holsteins milks 130 cows plus replacement heifers. We crop 700 acres . Looking after our animals is our top priority. Our family exist of: Hans my husband. Ellen who, with her partner Steven run Optimal Dairy in Beausejour.They have two little ones ,a Everleigh and Leif.Wouter our middle son who ,with his business partner ,opened Sana Soup house down town Winnipeg . Albert our youngest son came home to work with us after finishing his dairy science in Vermillion. He lives in Otterburne a mile away from the farm.
