Okanagan Equine Veterinary Services was established in 1983 by Dr. Sheila McDonald, the first equine only practice in the B.C. interior. In October of 2007 Okanagan Equine moved to 4656 Wallace Hill Road in Southeast Kelowna. The new facilities are located on a beautiful 13 acre farm with plenty of room to offer a wide range of services. Facility The 6500 square foot clinic includes a full surgery suite, induction and recovery room, laboratory, pharmacy, standing surgery and treatment room, a fully equipped breeding laboratory, and seven hospital stalls. Attached to the clinic is a 75' by 150' indoor arena in which there are six more stalls, a stallion collection area, and an area for riding or for carrying out lameness or prepurchase exams. Upstairs are offices, a washroom, and a large seminar room with a viewing window into the surgery. The clinic is equipped for both conventional and digital X-rays, with a digital imaging center and onscreen diagnostics. The outdoor facilities include a round pen, a large outdoor grass riding area, and various sizes of fields and paddocks. A separate reception building houses the business offices and a staff kitchen. With the extensive new facilities more complex surgeries, medical diagnostics and treatment can be performed. In addition, a wide range of reproductive services is offered, such as the freezing of semen and high risk foaling. Horses which require rehabilitation following surgery or injury may be boarded at the farm, where a carefully monitored program is provided under direct veterinary supervision.
