2013 is the year Mooretown Courtright will turn the big 5-0!!!
Welcome to Mooretown-Courtright Public School
We believe that our school provides personal, intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth opportunities to all of our students, through the implementation of TRIBES, the philosophy of Ron Morrish, and character education. It is our aim to have each learner achieve the following expectations:
•self-discipline for good citizenship
•responsible behaviour
•basic academic skills
•healthy personal habits for life
•a desire for excellence and successful learning
•effective communication skills
•problem-solving skills
We believe that the purpose of attending school is to lay a foundation for a happy and useful life by obtaining the tools for learning, and by developing good work habits and respect for solid values. To facilitate this goal, teachers and parents need to communicate about the learning process. At school, at home and in the community, students must learn:
•respect for themselves
•respect for others
•respect for property
•respect for authority
Therefore, we expect that our students will:
•accept responsibility for their behaviour
•put forth their best effort in order to derive the greatest benefit from their schooling
•attend school regularly and in a timely manner, and
•respect the right of others to derive the greatest benefit from their own schooling.
We believe that this means that we must help our students develop a degree of self-control that will lead to correct and appropriate behaviour. Similarly, self-discipline is developed as a part of the learning process, and varies with age, level of maturity and personal experience. It is demonstrated when children behave appropriately, not only when an adult is looking, but when no adult is present. Responsibility for developing self-discipline in students is shared amongst students, parents, teachers and the community as a whole.
School discipline is much more than simply establishing a set of rules and regulations, and then enforcing them. It involves establishing and maintaining a co-operative and orderly environment in which students understand and internalise those values that have been discussed above.
