Lakeshore Helicopters is a 100% Aboriginal owned company with its corporate office located in Fort McMurray Alberta, and was founded in 2008 by Michael (Mike) Cardinal. Mr. Cardinal was a resident of Fort Chipewyan in his early years where he made a living as a trapper and firefighter becoming a very experienced Fire Boss. He later started Lakeshore Contacting and with hard work and dedication grew his contracting company to over 100 pieces of equipment.
Mr. Cardinal was one of the founding fathers of the Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association(NAABA). They came up with the idea of an association to represent all aboriginal companies in Northern Alberta. This grass roots idea has become one of the strongest organizations of its kind in Canada.
Over the years Lakeshore Helicopters has grown to include Six (6) helicopters:
Five (5) AS350B3E’s and One (1) EC120. Lakeshore Helicopters is approved by Transport Canada for CARS 702 and 703 operations as well as an Approved Maintenance Organization. Lakeshore’s Main office is located in Ft McMurray, Alberta and has a seasonal sub base in Ft. Chipewyan.
Lakeshore Helicopters is in the progress of starting a permanent sub base in Whitecourt, Alberta. We have recently secured land at the Whitecourt airport and will be building a hanger this summer.
