Ajax-Pickering's first Member of Youth Parliament.
Ajax's Longest Serving Youth Mayor.
Durham's Founding Youth Chair.
Kurtis McAleer has been a community activist since he worked on his first political campaign at twelve years old.
Since his first day on the campaign trail, Kurtis knew he wanted to serve his community wherever he was needed.
For almost a decade, Kurtis has served in various community leadership roles, specifically serving the youth of our community in Ajax and across Durham Region.
After serving in the Youth Parliament of Canada where he served as a Member of Youth Parliament (Ajax-Pickering) and as a Youth Cabinet Minister (Transportation, Infrastructure & Communities), Kurtis founded the Ajax Youth Council where he served as Youth Mayor and executive director for four terms from 2009-2011.
After Kurtis retired from the Ajax Youth Council, he was approached by a group of youth from across Durham who wanted his help building a new Durham Youth Council, which would serve all eight municipalities in Durham Region. Kurtis quickly agreed to help get this new venture off the ground and was later elected Durham Youth Council's founding Youth Chair.
Kurtis served three terms as Durham Youth Chair as well as two terms as Deputy Youth Chair. He also served as DYC's CEO/Executive Director for four years.
In 2014, Kurtis ran for Ward Four Councillor in Ajax and was the youngest candidate in the entire Town. Kurtis received around thirty percent of vote in that campaign.
