Kawartha Haliburton Victim Services was launched as a pilot project in 1987 in three locations within Ontario. In April 2000 Kawartha Haliburton Victim Services received our first funding from The Ministry of Attorney General, and in 2002 that funding became annualized. Today Kawartha Haliburton Victim Services is one of 41 sites in Ontario.
Kawartha Haliburton Victim Services works closely with Police and Emergency Services to provide emotional and practical support to victims and immediate family members of crime and tragic circumstance. Emotional and practical assistance is provided over the phone, on-scene, and in our office.
Kawartha Haliburton Victim Services objective is to lessen the trauma of those victimized, help them to cope with the immediate impact of the crime or tragic circumstance and encourage and support the victim(s) in contacting and connecting with other services for additional counselling, financial assistance, housing, compensation, and medical or legal services as appropriate.
