Jeff Davis - Candidate - Pictou Centre
Jeff Davis, 32, in an award-winning entrepreneur and journalist from New Glasgow. His aim is to promote business development in Pictou County, and attract more young families to the region.
He moved to New Glasgow with his family when he was six months old, and attended A.G. Baillie and New Glasgow High School. At 16, he was selected as an exchange student by the Rotary Club of New Glasgow and spent a year in France.
Jeff’s career as a journalist began in the Parliamentary Press Gallery in Ottawa, and his work has been published by the Canadian Press, Postmedia and The Globe and Mail. He also reported from foreign locales including Kenya and Afghanistan.
He also worked for three years with the Department of Foreign Affairs, including a stint at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC.
Jeff speaks French and Spanish, and has travelled extensively. During his years in Africa, he trained local journalists and volunteered as a warzone media relations trainer for the African Union.
He has launched a number of businesses in the travel space, and some may recognize Jeff as “The StashBelt Guy” who got a deal on Dragon’s Den. He is also a senior consultant to Vendasta, a booming Canadian tech company on Deloitte’s Fast50 list.
Jeff holds Bachelor of Journalism and Political Science degree from Carleton University, where he attended on a full scholarship. In 2010, he was was named a Young Professional in Media Fellow by the Aga Khan Foundation Canada. More recently, he won the 2016 Entrepreneur of the Year award from the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce.
He returned to Pictou County 2015. Jeff is a Rotarian, and volunteers with local youth through Big Brothers & Big Sisters and Junior Achievement Nova Scotia.
