Jason Hanley, Green Party MLA candidate for Port Coquitlam.
Bringing politics back into the hands of regular people.
Jason, a techie at heart, started programming computers at age ten. His entrepreneur parents inspired him to take a similar path, resulting in completion of his first commercial software project at the age of 15. This software is still being used today.
During university, he worked as a software engineering intern at Microsoft, graduating from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Computer Science. After working for a major satellite imaging software company for two years, he founded Syllogistic Software, focusing on the emerging transition from desktop software to web-based apps.
Once he completed an MBA at Wilfrid Laurier University, he took his company remote and moved to New Zealand, where he got his private pilot’s license and started flying small planes as a hobby. Since then, Jason has travelled the globe while building complex, customized software with a remotely distributed team.
Jason continues to apply his technical expertise with an ed-tech non-profit organization that focuses on delivering education to children in need using low-cost devices and crowdsourcing.
His love of the outdoors and hiking led to an early interest in protecting the environment. In New Zealand, he was introduced to wind energy, and has since championed the ongoing transition from fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy sources through advocacy and education initiatives.
