What started off as just a small group of people whacking some balls around, has grown into something quite amazing in a matter of months. Pickleball in High River really took off at our open house on Oct. 31, 2015 when we had over 90 people show up, interested to learn about the sport. And we're hoping for an even bigger turnout at this year's open house on Oct. 29. Since then, we've had interclub meets with Calgary and Medicine Hat, as well as received lessons from top-level players who play at Level 4.5. We also offer lessons and programs through the Town and give lessons to outside groups, including schools, companies, and most recently, the Foothills Retired Teachers' Association. Headed by our fearless leader, Brian Popowitch, it has become the most popular and beloved sport for all ages in High River. We play pickleball seven days a week, sometimes twice a day, and usually we have all nine courts in full swing. We pride ourselves in being the most friendly pickleball club and we are very welcoming to newcomers and players of all different levels and ages. We are also proud to offer a very successful tournament each spring, with over 140 participants in this three-day event. Our group of dedicated picklers was established as the High River Pickleball Club in August of 2016 and we look forward to sharing new and exciting things with you! See you on the courts.
