We are a network of neighbours and organizations working together to address food insecurity in Edmonton's west end!
Food4Good is the food programming division of the Jasper Place Wellness Centre, which is a registered charity. Food4Good is supported by community members and organizations who believe that food is a way to connect, learn, grow and share with each other. We believe food should be healthy, accessible, culturally-appropriate and just. We are working to address food insecurity at the neighbourhood level in Edmonton's westend. We have 4 program areas:
Growing – We facilitate many shared growing sites on public & private land. Ask us about using a garden plot to grow your own food!
Cooking & Eating – We offer cooking workshops on various topics, build food literacy in our neighbourhoods, enjoy meals with our neighbours, and work with our growers to preserve and process excess harvests!
Food Access – Increasing access to healthy, affordable and culturally-appropriate foods for all is a large part of our vision. We are currently holding travelling food hub markets twice a month in local community leagues. Through both food donations and bulk buying we are able to sell produce at about 40% less than grocery store prices.
Advocacy – To us, advocacy means supporting individuals & communities in finding their voice on social justice issues, while addressing root causes of food insecurity. We want to find ways to build community leaders, engage with policymakers and give our neighbourhoods a platform to find unique solutions to food insecurity.
