Helping our Community since 1986, and Edmonton's Only Downtown Thrift store!!
The Edmonton Emergency Relief Services Society (EERSS) was first established in 1986 in response to a tragic fire. They are a small group of people dedicated to serving victims of fire and disaster by helping them with the basic supplies such as household necessities, and furniture—all this support is given at no cost to the people in need.
We are Supported in Part by the Edmonton Community Foundation. A big THANK YOU to the Edmonton Community Foundation for their generous donation to help us provide our Fire/Disaster victims with much-needed material relief.
We work hand-in-hand with the Red Cross and the Edmonton Fire Department to assist individuals and families who have been devastated with by a personal disaster..
Our on-site store sells clothing, new and second-hand furniture, all kinds of household goods and toys at very affordable prices and we are open to the public. These items are perfect for general every day use. These items can also be great for Birthdays and even Christmas. EERSS also carries brand new items donated by major store chains such as returned items and overstocked items.
The items have been donated to us from stores and the general public. The revenue from the store and other donations are used to support the services we offer to ALL communities in Alberta and other provinces.
Each month the EERSS assists countless families and people in need by providing them with basic supplies, household necessities, furniture and support. We help:
•Victims of fire, disaster and low income families.
•Poor and isolated communities around Alberta.
•Organizations, schools, churches, and agencies in and around our community.
There are many freezing, cold nights in the winter and during these nights it is the homeless people in Edmonton that suffer the most. Volunteers and staff of the EERSS go out on many of these nights to hand out winter clothing and warm blankets to the homeless.
We have successfully marked many Milestones in our history:
-We coordinated and assisted in the relief efforts after the Black Friday Tornado in 1987;
-We sent 8 semi-trailers full of relief supplies for the Manitoba Flood relief in 1997;
-We aided and supplied relief items for the Pine Lake Tornado disaster in 2000;
-We started the original "Coats for Kids" campaign;
-We have aided countless families in apartment and house fires;
-We collected and distributed over 4000 blankets to the homeless community in 2007.
-We worked with and helped Homeward Trust to establish Edmonton's first Furniture Bank;
-In May 2011, the Government of Alberta asked us to coordinate the relief efforts during the Slave Lake Wildfires;
- We Sent Relief supplies to Calgary to help with the flooding in Southern Alberta in 2013.
In addition to helping fire and disaster victims, the EERSS also provides countless families of low income and people in need with reasonably priced household items from our Thrift Shoppe. Our prices are affordable for any income.
