Community Watch is a York Regional Police program encouraging interaction between citizens & police with the goal of building safer communities.
Community Watch has been established for the purposes of encouraging community participation in building safer communities and strengthening the partnership between York Regional Police and our community.
Improving community awareness and participation in monitoring and reporting crime and/or suspicious activity helps deter criminal behaviour and being actively involved in your community allows all of us to work together to promote safer communities.
This Facebook page is run by York Regional Police but requires the participation and involvement of the community. We encourage you to post questions and concerns on this page regarding issues of personal safety, community safety and crime prevention. A York Regional Police Crime Prevention Officer will post on this page, ask questions and respond to inquiries posted here. We endeavour to do our best to respond to all inquiries and provide as much information as possible, while respecting the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
We ask that all participants be respectful of their neighbours and use this platform to engage in an appropriate way with the goal of improving community safety. We encourage honesty, openness and interaction and will not tolerate inappropriate or offensive posts/comments. Please see our Terms of Use under Notes for further information.
Thank you and we look forward to sharing with you.
The Proud Past of York Regional Police:
On January 1, 1971, 14 Municipal Police Departments and the York County Security Police were amalgamated to form a new Regional Police service.
Although York Regional Police is relatively new, we continue a tradition of police service that spans more than two hundred years.
Our motto, DEEDS SPEAK, is interpreted to mean “Actions Speak Louder Than Words” and serves as an appropriate bridge between a proud past and a bright future. The motto was coined during the War of 1812 by the 3rd York Militia Regiment, in which many of the Home District Constables served. The Home District included today’s York Region, and as such, these constables were the forerunners of our modern day police. DEEDS SPEAK must always serve as the foundation to all our endeavours.
Since 1971, the Region has grown at an unprecedented rate and today, the communities of York Region are served by more than 1,364 full-time police professionals and approximately 496 support staff. The basic principle of helping your neighbour, however, has endured. York Regional Police is proud to continue this tradition and is committed to remain sensitive to the constantly changing needs of the community.
