Catherine McKenna practiced competition and international trade law in Canada and Indonesia and was senior negotiator with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in East Timor. She also served as senior advisor on the former Chief Justice Antonio Lamer’s review of Canada’s military justice system. Catherine co-founded Canadian Lawyers Abroad, a charitable organization that works in developing countries and with Indigenous communities in Canada. She served as Executive Director of the Banff Forum, a public policy organization for young leaders. Catherine taught at the Munk School of Global Affairs. Catherine and her husband live in Ottawa with their three children. Catherine is an active member of the Ottawa Centre community. She was Vice President of the Glebe Community Association and has served on the boards of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Ottawa and Good Morning Creative Arts and Preschool. She enjoys canoeing with her kids and swimming with the National Capital Region YMCA Masters Swim Team. Catherine was elected on October 19, 2015 and was appointed Minister of Environment and Climate Change on November 4, 2014.


Catherine McKenna a pratiqué le droit dans les domaines de la concurrence et du commerce international au Canada et en Indonésie. Elle a également été négociatrice principale dans le cadre de la mission de maintien de la paix des Nations Unies au Timor-Leste. Elle a été avocate principale auprès du très honorable Antonio Lamer, ancien juge en chef, lors de son examen de l’appareil de justice militaire du Canada. Madame McKenna est la cofondatrice de l’organisme caritatif Avocats canadiens à l’étranger, lequel œuvre dans les pays en développement et dans les communautés autochtones du Canada. Elle a occupé le poste de directrice générale du Banff Forum, un organisme de politique publique qui s’adresse aux jeunes leaders. Elle a déjà enseigné à l’École Munk des affaires internationales. Catherine McKenna vit à Ottawa avec son mari et leurs trois enfants. Catherine McKenna est active au sein de la communauté d’Ottawa-Centre. Elle a été vice-présidente de la Glebe Community Association et membre des conseils de la Société Elizabeth Fry d’Ottawa et de l’organisme Good Morning Creative Arts and Preschool. Elle aime faire du canot avec ses enfants et fait partie du club des maîtres nageurs du YMCA-YWCA de la région de la capitale nationale. Madame McKenna a été élue le 19 octobre 2015 et nommée ministre de l’Environnement et du Changement climatique le 4 novembre 2015.
