Aviron Knowlton is a non-profit organization that supports rowing by experts and by recreational rowers on Lac Brome in the Town of Knowlton, Quebec
Aviron Knowlton - Knowlton Rowing (The Club) was founded in May 2017. It is located on Lac Brome, Quebec, an hour’s drive east from Montreal. The Club’s genesis has been the work of coach, Gavin McKay, who brought elite training to Lac Brome. McKay has won widespread support in the community from the schools, the gym, the populace and the Town.
The Club’s intent is to connect those who wish to row to boats, coaches, insurance, support and access to the lake. Our policy is to remove costs as a barrier. The Club will provide a home for the elite program and act as a catalyst for local rowing of all abilities.
The club's primary focus will be on attracting the young to the sport.
The elite program has demonstrated that Lac Brome is an ideal venue for rowing. The Town of Brome Lake has given the club access to the lake at Douglass Beach. Douglass Beach has parking, changing rooms, showers, bathrooms and a cafe. The Beach also has a dock and finely graded beach access.
The Club will act as a rowing-network facilitator that connects those who wish to row to coaching, to boats, to access to the lake and to insurance. The existing pool of young resident elite rowers offer the club an ideal pool of talent. Our hope is that the success of the elite program will also help the Club to get the funding that it requires to have enough boats.
The Club will make its first offering later this summer.
