Go back to a time when COAL WAS KING!
The Atlas Coal Mine was the last of 139 mines that operated in the Drumheller Valley from 1911 to 1979. Today it is open for tours and visitors are allowed to explore the last wooden tipple in Canada, don caps and lamps and head underground, listen to the ghostly silence of a once busy washhouse, stroll around the authentic historic landscape and even catch a ride on a 1936 Mancha Mine locomotive.
The Atlas is a fanastic, interactive and engaging place to visit for people of all ages. Kids LOVE us! School groups can book year round to participate in one of our curriculum based programs.
~ GOOD FOOTWEAR IS REQUIRED to take some of the tours.
~ There are bathrooms on site.
~ The water at the Atlas is not potable. You can bring your own drinking water or purchase it from our giftshop.
~ Depending on the time of year, bug spray helps.
