In 1999, Fay and Lyle Sipe took the huge step of diversifying their farm with a small quilt shop in the nearby town of Beaverlodge, Alberta; population 2500. With their daughter Erin Kyle the small family business, Around The Block, was opened in 2000. The first three years was about learning the quilt business, planning classes and making samples. It became apparent that they needed to add a sewing machine line to the products they carried and they became Husqvarna Viking sewing machine dealers in 2003. Three years ago Erin became a shareholder and the following year the business moved into a 4500 sg ft building where it operates today. The store reflects the country roots of the Sipe family and the modern edge Erin brings in the warm welcome you receive at the door, to the bright open atmosphere for classes and camaraderie shared with all who stop in to sew together. With fourteen foot ceilings the store samples are a quilt gallery changing regularly to capture the artistic spirit in everyone.
