The Chemainus mural project is the world’s leading community-driven art tourism experience. Spurred to save a community from certain economic collapse, the Chemainus mural project has delighted and inspired millions of visitors and ultimately became the blueprint for community mural projects globally. The project continues to innovate through trompe-l’oeil, advanced technologies, such as Evolon, 3D/audio and sculpture/painting mixed-media concepts.

Established in January of 1987, after six years as a project of the Municipality of North Cowichan, the Chemainus Festival of Murals Society is a registered, non-profit organization directed by an elected Board of Directors.
Each mural is copyrighted by the Municipality of North Cowichan with the Chemainus Festival of Murals Society acting on behalf of both the artists, the Municipality and the community as a whole.
The society is strongly supported by the community, and functions through revenues generated by sales of copyrighted souvenirs, grants, corporate sponsors, and the generous donations of time and money by volunteers and members.
